Fatal Accident Raises Concerns About Traffic Safety

One person has been killed and a dozen others injured after a car crashed into a crowd of people in a busy Berlin shopping district.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the Charlottenburg district, when a 29-year-old man allegedly drove his car into a group of pedestrians on Kurfürstendamm, one of the city's most famous shopping streets.

According to witnesses, the car was traveling at high speed when it veered onto the sidewalk and struck several people. The victim, a 55-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, where they are being treated for various injuries.

The driver of the car was arrested and is currently being questioned by police. The motive for the crash is still under investigation.

The tragedy has raised concerns about traffic safety in Berlin. In 2022, 2782 people were killed in road accidents in Germany, a figure that has been rising steadily in recent years.
